NSHMBA NY - November Events

November 2009 has New York united! This month has New Yorkers discussing Mayoral elections, the Yankees, and of course NSHMBA Leadership Development seminars. The New York Chapter of NSHMBA has 3 major events planned for November.

The first event is the Latina Leadership Summit, which takes place on November 5th. Now in its 5th year, the New York Chapter of NSHMBA, with Deloitte & Touche/Harvard Business School’s Latino Alumni Association and American Express® proudly present the 5th Annual Latina Leadership Summit. Keeping with our ‘Move Forward’ campaign from the 2009 National Conference, this year’s Latina Leadership Summit will center on TRANSITIONS. This event highlights and celebrates successful Latina leaders.

TRANSITIONS’ Keynote Speaker is Latina media dynamo Nely Galán. Dubbed the "Tropical Tycoon" by The New York Times Magazine, Nely is one of the entertainment industry’s savviest firebrand talents - bringing her considerable expertise to full effect as a successful producer and entrepreneur; a galvanizing powerbroker in the Latino world; and a female empowerment and motivational speaker. Galán, a former President of the powerhouse Telemundo network, has owned and operated her own media company since 1994. Recently Galán appeared on the NBC hit "The Celebrity Apprentice with Donald Trump" joining an all-star cast including Gene Simmons, Nadia Comaneci, Marilu Henner and the infamous Omarosa. Galán’s appearance on the show, where she raised $250,000 for her charity COUNT ME IN, furthered her reputation as one of the nation’s top female moguls.

Our Moderator for TRANSITIONS is CNBC’s Bertha Coombs. Covering financial markets and business news stories throughout the business day, Coombs is based at the network’s global headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. Coombs' reporting at CNBC has ranged from coverage of the spying scandal on Hewlett-Packard's board and the criminal trial of former Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and Mississippi. She also serves as a substitute anchor on business day programs, including CNBC's "Worldwide Exchange", broadcast live from Europe, Asia and the United States. Coombs is a member and former board member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
